Many students have been complaining about the school water fountains and how the water tastes. Some students question if it is even sanitary. Some students have suggested having water jugs, like the one provided by Ki’s at the lunch area, around the school instead of drinking from the water fountains.

In Mr. Brian Mariano’s seventh grade class, about 95% of students said they preferred having water jugs instead of the water fountains.

Seventh grader Braeden Ferrone stated, “The water tastes bad, and there are some bugs in the fountains.”

In Mrs. Gena Heins’s class, 89% of the students say yes to water jugs.

However, seventh grader Ethan Pinnell believes it’s a bad idea, saying, “People will be knocking it over and causing a mess.”

Mrs. Jenae Smith’s eighth grade class had 59% of students favoring water jugs, but 41% said no. In Mrs. Sarah Eberlin’s class of eighth graders, 76% said yes to the water jugs, but 24% said no. The percentage of all seventh and eighth graders who said yes is 79%. Kids have said that the water taste like rusty metal, and that is why people question if it is sanitary.

Mr. Dan Schuh said he was unaware of any issues with the fountains.

“I never had anyone come saying there was problems with the water fountains until now. The only problem I knew about was the one a couple of years ago with the water fountain down at the field, but I had fixed that problem about two years ago.”

He said so far there is no plan for improving the fountains because he did not know it needed improvements. Mr. Schuh stated that he would consider providing water jugs if it was reasonable.

He also added, “The water comes through city pipes, and it would be hard to improve the taste of the water.”

He said that years ago a parent recommended a water service, but the service was not willing to come and set it up at the school.
