Splatoon was a widely popular game that was released on the Wii U in 2015. The sequel to this franchise, called Splatoon 2, is set to be released worldwide on July 20 on the Nintendo Switch. The franchise has been critically acclaimed by both the children who play the game and their parents. The success of this franchise can be attributed to the fact that it is a child-friendly third-person shooter style. Currently, Splatoon 2’s rating is pending, but will most likely be the same as the original, which is everyone ten and up.

The plot follows events from the previous game’s campaign, with the player character having to take part in covert operations. New weapons will be added to the game, as well as character customization. The game will also utilize Amiibo’s. Splatoon 2 will have both single and multi-player, including a campaign and online multi-player mode. Local multi-player will also be available over LAN, or local area network.

When asked if he was excited for the game, second grader Sean Fleming said, “I liked the first game, so I am excited for the next one.”

Many Saint John’s students play Nintendo games. Splatoon has been especially popular with younger students because of its family-friendly gameplay.

Eighth grader Gigi Jasso said, “Yes, I would like to play the game to see how it is different from other games.”
