We think that seventh and eighth grade girls at Saint John School should be given the privilege to wear a small amount of make-up on Picture Day on Sept. 28. Not only does it make girls feel more confident, but also if they have a small blemish on their face, they can cover it up. The only make-up we feel would be appropriate on this day would be concealer and mascara. We feel make-up would be acceptable for this particular event because it is only one day.

We believe that this opportunity would only be allowed for seventh and eighth grade because this is the time girls start wearing make-up to cover up blemishes. If a teacher thinks that a student is wear any more make-up than what is appropriate, like eyeshadow or lip gloss, then students should be sent to the bathroom to wash it all off.

Preslea Wilson, a seventh grader in Mr. Brian Mariano’s class, said, “I think it would be appropriate to wear make-up on this day because make-up is not bad.”

Ainsley Savant, also from Mr. Mariano’s seventh grade class, stated, “I think we should be able to wear a little bit of make-up on Picture Day because it is the one picture everyone will remember you by.”

Mrs. Jill Burke, assistant principal, said make-up should not be allowed because it is a regular school day and will be put in the yearbook. Even though make-up on Picture Day is not allowed, the girls in eighth grade will be allowed to wear a small amount of make-up for their graduation picture as long as they do not have any infractions from the beginning of the school year to the day of the picture.

Nevertheless, we still believe it would be appropriate for both the seventh and eighth grade girls to wear make-up on Picture Day as well. It would make them feel more confident and feel less insecure about their minor details that might make them feel self-conscious on a day they would like to remember for the best.
